Common Questions About Ultrasonic Liposuction

The newest technique in liposuction is called Ultrasonic Liposuction. Ultrasound waves pulsate through the unwanted fat, liquifying it to be gently removed. As a result, less force is needed and therefore, generally less bruising and swelling develop.

Areas that are treatable with Ultrasonic Liposuction include under the chin, upper arms and armpits, male chest/breasts (gynecomastia), trunk, abdomen, waist, buttocks, hips, thighs, inner knees, calves and ankles.

Candidates for ultrasonic liposuction include individuals within their target weight who have specific areas of fat pockets. The cosmetic surgeon will determine the improvements that can be made with Ultrasonic Liposuction and work with you to achieve a more contoured body. Ultrasonic Liposuction is often used in conjunction with Vaser® Liposelection™. Here at The Centre, P.C., we have found that Vaser LipoSelection gives better results, less bruising and a faster recovery.

During liposuction (or LipoSelection), small incisions are made to insert the cannula, which is used to both liquefy and remove the fat. These incision sites are minimally visible when healed. Following plastic surgery, you will be placed in a compressive garment that will help control the swelling and aid in the overall healing process. This garment will be worn for one week at which time a pull-on garment will be provided. This second garment should be worn for approximately one month.

Ultrasonic liposuction is a relatively safe procedure with minimal risks. Your surgeon will discuss with you specific risks, as well as educate you fully regarding this procedure prior to your surgery. This procedure is commonly performed under general anesthesia, but may be performed under an epidural or local with sedation anesthesia. It is an outpatient procedure, so you may return home the same day.
